About Us

Our Sailors and the GBSA Mission

Ahoy matey! Our sailors have been sponsored in local, regional and national competitions. Many students have competed in and won national championships and several students in international races such as the Newport to Bermuda Race, Admiral Cup, Sardinia Race Week, Antigua Race Week, and SORC Races as well as other events. A few former students have also competed in the Olympic Trials. Many of our sailing school’s students have gone on to become sailing instructors at universities and elsewhere as well as being names All Americans.

The sailing school has hosted many regional and national regattas as well as countless Narragansett Bay Yachting Association regattas and is expected to do so in the future. For the last several years, GBSA has hosted the CJ Buckley Regatta.

The program operates every June, July and August. In addition to the children’s program, the school has operated an evening adult program on an “as needed” basis. Enrollment has grown from the original handful to over 150 students per summer.

Our Mission

Our mission is centered on the objective to introduce young children to the sport of sailing through an education in marine safety and seamanship while conducting our classes in a nurturing and enthusiastic atmosphere that will foster their passion for sailing and the environment. Students are encouraged to test their skills in competitive sailing, and we advocate that they channel their own growth and challenge themselves through the intricacies of sailboat racing. Finally, we hope in the end that students will have forged lifelong friendships with their peers and will reflect back on their years at GBSA with fondness for the time spent here.

Our Location

GBSA is located at 10 Water Street in East Greenwich RI 02818.    We are between the East Greenwich Yacht Club and Nortons Marina.   Follow the signs to Norton's marina and you will drive right in front of our building.
