The Boats of GBSA

Hunter 140

The Hunter 140 is the perfect learning platform for beginner sailors.   The wide-beam keeps it stable and dry while its planing hull allows it to really move.   The large cockpit with integrated seats provides plenty of room for instructor and student.

Optimist

The Optimist, or more commonly known, the Opti is a one-sail dingy designed for sailors weighing between 50 – 120 pounds.  It allows the student to learn sail trimming and steering.  The Opti is the first “racing boat” our young sailors go into before advancing to the Laser or 420.

Club 420

GBSA utilizes the 420 for students who are moving forward in experience and strength. This boat is a two person boat, and has classes for both spinnaker, and non-spinnaker racing.

Laser

The Laser is a single-handed one design boat.  Many of the world’s top sailors perfected their sailing techniques in a Laser.  Over the years, three different rigs have been created so that sailors of different ages and weights can learn on one.  There is the original Laser, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7.  The only difference between the three is the sail area.  As every Laser is identical, it proves that it is the capabilities of the sailor and not just the boat that produces a winner.
