BEGINNERS AND INTERMEDIATES

At the instructional level, our Beginner and Intermediate students will continue to have access to US Sailing certified instructors that will introduce these young sailors to the fundamentals of sailing in Optimists and JY 14's, as well as to build their confidence as young sailors. They are ready to make this summer your child's most memorable experience yet.  With the leadership of Head Instructor Olga Goretoy, the 2008 instructor team has undergone rigorous training in sailboat instruction, as well as developing effective strategies for working with young children.

All students in the morning program are part of the same classroom and have access to the same core of instructors.  Therefore, the learning in the classroom is designed to benefit all students in the development of their seamanship skills.  The distinction between Beginner and Advanced Beginner occurs on the water where those students with more sailing experience are asked to sail single-handedly in the Optimists and to skipper our JY 14's during the first half of the session.  Here, Advanced Beginners have the opportunity to practice higher level drills.  Simultaneously, with instructors in the sailboats, new Beginners have the opportunity to develop their skills and increase their confidence under careful monitoring in preparation for steering these sailboats later in the session.

GBSA Opti RaceAll Intermediate students are individuals that have demonstrated the skills, confidence and maturity to sail without the presence of an instructor in the sailboat.  Again, all intermediates are part of the same classroom and work to improve their seamanship skills under the same guidance.  The distinction is that Advanced Intermediates are students that have prior racing experience and are ready to skipper our sailboats during practice.  New Intermediates are students that have minimal racing experience and will be introduced to this concept during the session.  Ultimately, all students participate in racing with Advanced Intermediates assuming the responsibility of steering the sailboats during the initial weeks of class.

The tuition rate for the Beginner and Intermediate Programs is $625 per 4-week session. For both sessions, the tuition is $1100.

RACERS

Additionally, the GBSA Racing Team promises to be among the most competitive on Narragansett Bay.  The GBSA Racing Teams are Optis, Lasers and 420s.  The High School Sailing Program afforded a number of our racers an early start on the season and the outstanding racing coaches on our team this year will certainly provide premier racing instruction.

The tuition rate for the Racing Program is $1100 for the 8-week session.

CANCELLATION POLICY: 50% Refund up to three weeks before the start of the session date.  NO REFUNDS THEREAFTER.
