We are off and Sailing!!!

We are now well into the first session of the 2010 season. Here are few important things we wanted to bring to your attention.

For children in the Opti, Laser and 420 programs there are some regattas coming up. There are several posts from your old friend “The Barnacle”  in our GBSA Blog section that provide some good insight into the in’s and out’s of regatta life and tips on finding your way to a “Stress Free Regatta”, so visit that section and read up.

We also have a Discussion Board up that we would really like to get active. Wether you have a question about a regatta for “The Barnacle” of have any comment or suggestion about junior racing in general please post and be heard. It would be great for parents to comment and discuss a recent regatta, thoughts on what went well and what did not will only help the sport of Junior Sailing on Narragansett Bay improve. Registering for the board is quick and easy, so lets hear your thoughts!

Also, if you know of anyone who may be interested in sailing, please direct them to this site. There are still spots available for the second session which starts July 19th. Here is some information on our Instructional programs.

The GBSA InstructionalProgram includes

• Beginners - a program designedto teach kids the basics of sailing.  It’s the perfect starting place.  Beginners sail in groups with an instructor on the boat.  Kidsas young as 7 may enroll.
• Sailing Adventures – is all about having fun on the water.  Kids in Sailing Adventures span from 9-17 and are engaged in just having good clean fun on the water.  They sail a variety of boats and explore the bay.
• Opti Beginners – for those who have learned the basics and want to explore racingsailboats – opti beginners provides the perfect platform to learn about racing sailboats.
• 420 Instructional - after optimist dinghies, kids in the early teens will often moveto the 420 – a two person boat.  420 instructional teaches the basics of this boat that is popular with highschool and college sailing programs.
